On the other hand, if you have a really great story that you think ought to be making the rounds, but you need help validating it, or spreading it, send it to the following e-mail address: Legend Number 1: Early Prospectors Followed the Stream Up Gold Hill Canyon to Find the Big StrikeThe idea behind this legend is that gold washed down from the Gold Hill area towards the alluvial plain near Mound House, making it inevitable that the early prospectors would work their way up the stream and find the Big Bonanza. This is refuted on several counts. Can you imagine what they might be? Legend Number 2: Gold Hill Was Named After the Gold Found ThereHint: Think about the color of the dirt in the area, not what was found by scratching around under the surface. Legend Number 3: The Disney Corporation Offered Either to Buy Virginia City or to Operate It as a Consolidated BusinessQuite of few responsible individuals in the area believe this to be true. Equally responsible residents believe the that it is just bunk. Are there any insiders who can validate or refute this claim? We really don't know. |
